As a political pundit, or someone that spends an exorbitant amount of time researching political news and “facts”, are you becoming more educated on the subject – or developing a confirmation bias?

Your opinions are the result of years of paying attention to information that confirmed what you believed while ignoring information, which challenged your preconceived notions.

Confirmation bias is a filter through which you see a reality that matches your expectations. (You see what you want to see) It causes you to think selectively, but the real trouble begins when confirmation bias distorts your active pursuit of facts. Will you refuse to read a book or news article if you know it is written by a known member of the opposing political ideology or party? Are the only books you read, the ones in which you know they will write or say whatever it is that you need to hear?

You seek out safe havens for your ideology – friends and coworkers of like mind and attitude, media outlets guaranteed to say whatever you need them to say. Not associating with certain people at work because you know they hold different political views than yourself prevents you from constantly validating what you want to believe. They may say things that are contradictory to how you believe, and you don’t like it. Most times, your opinions or beliefs are so intertwined with your self-image that you cant pull them away without damaging your self-perception, and this causes you to avoid situations that may cause harm to those beliefs.

Over time, by never seeking the opposite view, while perusing online news subscriptions, magazines, stacks of books and hours of television, you can become so confident in your world-view no one could change your mind.

Remember, there’s always someone out there willing to sell eyeballs to advertisers by offering a guaranteed audience of people looking to validate their opinions or conclusions. Ask yourself if you are in that audience. In science, you move closer to the truth by seeking evidence to the contrary. Perhaps the same method should inform your opinions as well.

If your goal is to soothe your inner ego with information that you already know – keep researching your subjects in the same mannerisms that you presently use. If you want true education and perspective, it’s time to start researching the other side of the object, while making possible that it could be correct.

All of the above provides ample reason as to why social media like Facebook or Twitter will forever be a ruse in political objectivity. When people can “un-friend or block” a person with a differing viewpoint and often do so – that person is seeking validation, not knowledge. These social media types need confirmation and stimulation from their “friends and followers” that they are the enlightened ones, and have the most correct hypothesis for their punditry. Until you are willing to argue either side in a debate and prepared to negotiate a win-win, you are living with confirmation bias and seeking validity from others.

A long time ago, the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert.

Congress said, “Someone may steal from it at night.”

So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, “How does the watchman do his job without instruction?”

So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.
Then Congress said, “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?”
So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports.
Then Congress said, “How are these people going to get paid?”
So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.
Then Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?”
So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.
Then Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back.”

So they laid-off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.
Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter. Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter administration?

Didn’t think so!

Bottom line is, we’ve spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency, the reason for which very few people who read this can remember!

It was very simple… and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977, to lessen our dependence on foreign oil.
Hey, pretty efficient, huh?

Now it’s 2015 – 38 years later – and the budget for this “Necessary” department is at $24.2 Billion per year.  It has 16,000 federal employees and approximately 100,000 contract employees – and look at the job it has done!

38 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports.

Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

That’s what you call good old Federal bureaucracy.

Divided By Choice

Today, I got tired of following politics non-stop, and decided to think of something just as important for a change. A person that I have always respected, and whose friendship I cherish made this comment in one of our conversations:

“I rarely have company at my house, everyone’s always so busy”.

That statement struck me as odd because this person has such a lovely home, equipped with everything that almost everyone ever dreams of having. They have a huge living area, with a humongous television screen for ballgames, movies and such. The kitchen area could produce a meal for an army regiment. The entire back side of the house has a deck that could host a live band, and this overlooks the swimming pool with many lounge chairs, umbrella’s and a fire pit.

Therefore, I could not help but wonder why everyone seemed to be so busy and this person rarely entertained at home. We all go to work and attempt to make ourselves as successful as possible. I think that most everybody out there, wants to have a “Better Homes and Gardens” type of dwelling they can call their own. Perhaps the real question is why do we want to have such a home. Of course the real answer is that our home identifies us as much as the automobile we drive. For centuries the Kings & Queens of royalty and those that aspire to be like them, have always entertained at home. Anyone ever recall a story about some commoner sitting at home and the King drops by? So it goes without saying that people have nice homes because they want to be comfortable and just as important – they want to entertain their guest and family in these comfortable surroundings.

So what are the reasons that a person could have all of this, and still “rarely” entertain friends or family? Very few people ever want to consider the reasons for this. After all, most people are not overworked hermits with a total lack of social skills. Very few people really want to be totally alone unless forced to socialize with others. But no one really thinks of the social mores, habits and lifestyles of all of those involved in their lives. So I decided to think about it for them. The following represents a few of the thoughts I had on the subject.

People that don’t come to your house and why

Smokers – because you don’t allow smoking inside
Non-Smokers – because you do smoke inside, and your house stinks

Drunks – because you will not provide them with alcohol
Non-Drinkers – because everyone including yourself are drinking

Democrats – because they know that they have very little in common with you other than whiskey & cigarettes
Republicans – because they think you’re to opinionated and have no facts other than talking points to back yourself up with (at least thats the rumor)
Independents – because they just don’t want to hear either of the other parties rants

Religious Folks – because they would rather be sharing the word of God and know you don’t want to hear it
Heathens – because they don’t want to have to watch every word they say or hear a sermon (and countless other reasons)

Parents (Anyone that has kids) – because they feel uncomfortable with what their kids may do to, or in your house. They are too concerned with the imposition that they feel is placed on you, as their kids yell and scream, or ask awkward questions. It’s just best (they feel) to not go to your house with the children.

Non-Parents – many of them feel that your time with them will constantly be interrupted while you babysit, cook, or discipline your children. Perhaps the reason for their visit is something that you should not be doing in front of the children anyway.

Therefore, until you give up your mandates and ways of thinking about smoking, drinking, religion, politics or kids – you’re going to have a beautiful home that no one wants to visit.

Would it kill you to allow a friend that smokes to light one up in your house? You can’t seriously believe that an evening with one of these people is going to give you cancer. If you really believe that your house will stink for days, and that you will never get the smell of cigarette smoke out of all things made with linen, enjoy your empty home. You are wrong – but it is your home. If you are the smoker and people don’t come to your house – you now have a clue as to why. It’s not your personality they object to – it’s your habit. Don’t expect them to understand – if by chance they do permit your vice, try not to take advantage of their friendship or family status.

Drinking in your house will not make you responsible for another persons alcoholism or signify that you condone drunks. Why not serve a beer or glass of wine? Let people know that they are your guest and insist on serving, pouring all drinks. Set time limits on when you have to call it a night, or leave to be at a previous committed function and graciously see them to the door. I mean seriously, would you rather spend the rest of your life with these people avoiding you?

When it comes to politics, nothing says that you have to respond when the subject is broached. When they ask your opinion, give it, if you have one. Don’t try to show everyone the extent of your expert knowledge on the subject. They will either disagree and try to show you how smart they are, or educate you as to why you need to think just like them. Unless someone is as well versed or better at the subject than you are, you may be better off keeping your political opinions to yourself.

Religion in your house is your choice. You should not assume that because they came for a visit that they need to be saved. This is also not the time to impress them with your biblical knowledge. If you do not care to engage in the subject (if they bring it up), listen quietly and when the opportunity presents itself, change the subject. If you are the religious type and feel that its your duty to save everyone, you might want to consider whether the people you are attempting to save, want to be saved or not. Otherwise, just go on over to the church and hang out with the choir.

Kids – Pay attention to them. I mean shower them with your questions! This will either shut them up, or give you hours of conversation that their parents love to talk about. You can welcome the children and their parents or you can sit at home and wonder why you never see them. This is really simple – just understand that children are a fact of life and expect others to put them first.

We can choose our friends but we can’t choose our family. That is, unless you’re the type that has no qualms with kicking them out. We choose our friends by engaging with like-minded individuals, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have habits we don’t support. One can either accept their habits or remove them from the next party invitations that go out.

Acceptance seems to be the key to these situations. It does no harm to accept people for who they are, while they are visiting your home. That’s why they call it a visit! A lack of acceptance is one of the main reasons that American families are so distant and divided. The other options are to learn to love yourself and enjoy the solitude.

Millions of Shades of Gray

The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday.

They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are “Baby Boomers” getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God and grown old together. Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably true. But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration.

In school we studied English, history, math, and science which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, 25 cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. For those of you who don’t know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.

We are probably considered old fashioned and out-dated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn’t fight for the Socialist States of America, we fought for the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.” We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag. We know the words to the Star Spangled Banner, America, and America the Beautiful by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.

Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.

It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the “Hope and Change” which in reality was nothing but “Hype and Lies.”

You youngsters have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you don’t like it after all. You make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or “Climbing the Social Ladder” to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell for the “Great Lie” in 2008 are now having buyer’s remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn’t have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the ‘Kool-Aid.’ Now you’re paying the price and complaining about it. No jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, and less freedom.

This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.

Well, don’t worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Division is here, and in 2016 we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like but we get where we’re going, and in 2016 we’re going to the polls by the millions.

This land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Eric Holder. It belongs to “We the People” and “We the People” plan to reclaim our land and our freedom. We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren. So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, Stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the “Gray-Haired Division.”

Footnote: This is spot on. I am another Gray-Haired Division Geezer signing on. I will circulate this to other Gray-Haired Geezers all over this once great count. Can you feel the ground shaking???

It’s not an earthquake, it is a STAMPEDE.

Time to go Mr. Speaker

America wants John Boehner to be voted out as Speaker of the House. The Questions is: Will House Representatives represent the people who voted them into office, or will they pacify Boehner and go shopping for lucrative committee leaderships? If freshman representatives think that their constituents aren’t watching, or will not know how they voted, they had better find themselves a better person to handle their Social Media assignments. The country will be watching this vote as closely as they did the midterms. This vote is also not considered a safe bet for RINO’s that desire longer employment than the year 2016. Americans over the age of 21 are waking up and paying attention and that means they will not be forgetting if their representative turned their back on them or not during this vote.

The two Congressmen below, share all the reasons needed to shore up the House with new leadership. The Republican voters did not hand the House and Senate such landslide victories in 2010 and 2014 so they could watch their efforts implode due to poor leadership. As Dr. Gregory House from the famed television show says, “Everybody lies”. Warning to all House Representatives: Get your House in order or be prepared to get cancelled out.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) issued a statement on Saturday detailing why he’s going to vote against House Speaker John Boehner’s re-election on Tuesday.

Boehner “schedule[d] a fiscal crisis in a lame duck session on the last legislative day before Christmas to get maximum leverage over rank and file members” and then worked to “mislead members into thinking that a vote on an unpopular bill was postponed, only to then conduct a rushed voice vote on the $10 billion unfunded spending measure with fewer than a dozen members present.”

Boehner also made sure to “give members less than 72 hours to read bills over 1,000 pages long, and,” Massie said, has proven he will “remove members from committees simply because they voted for the principles upon which they campaigned.”

“With a process this broken, is it any wonder that Washington no longer works for the people?” Massie said. “My constituents expect better, and America deserves better. On January 6th, 2015, I will vote for a new Speaker who will consistently articulate a constitutional vision for America and facilitate an inclusive and orderly legislative process that allows Congress to truly reflect the will of the people.

Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) says he will not vote for House Speaker John Boehner’s reelection as speaker. He specifically cites the “Cromnibus,” the government-funding measure that passed before lawmakers ended the 113th Congress in December.

Bridenstine notes that, despite huge wins by Republicans in the midterm elections and with Democrats in melt-down mode, Boehner worked with Obama and surrendered Republican’s best chance at retaining control in Congress.

“Together they crafted the CR/Omnibus, a $1.1 trillion spending bill which funded the government for 10 months and blocked our newest elected Republicans from advancing conservative policy and delivering on campaign promises,” Bridenstine said. “With this vote, Republicans gave away the best tool available to rein in our liberal activist President: the power of the purse. The power of the purse is Congress’ Constitutional strength.”

Bridenstine argued that passing the cromnibus provided Obama and liberals a huge victory by funding Obamacare

At this critical juncture, the few dozen conservatives in the House have two options. They can allow themselves and the 2014 electorate to remain disenfranchised, helplessly standing by while Boehner passes crucial legislation on amnesty, budget bills, Obamacare, and debt ceiling increases with Democrat support. Or they can seize control of their own destiny by using the first vote of this Congress – the only vote for which Boehner cannot rely on Democrat support – to veto the Speaker himself and preempt a disastrous two years of lawmaking.

To be clear, there is zero chance of Pelosi becoming Speaker because she would never win more than 188 votes, far short of the majority of the House body. The very hour that this vote takes place, will become a defining moment for so many Representatives – You either define it or it surely will define you. Those campaigns cost a lot of money – don’t waste it with a vote that you know America does not want you to cast!

The “Neofiscapaleon” 2016

The American People can continue to blindly vote for the winner of 2015-2016 Popularity Contest for their next President, or they can get busy finding the correct person to lead this country. Make no mistake about it, the “media” will attempt everything under the sun to misinform you all the way to the polls, where they pray that you will vote for the person that “they” have pre-selected for you.

The left wing media is every bit as involved in choosing a Republican candidate, as they are in propping up their candidate – Hillary Clinton. The goal of our dear media is to insure they pick a candidate that – at least half of all registered Republicans can’t stomach. That’s easy enough to do, because it’s virtually impossible to get 10 people in a room that will agree on everything. This is the problem! The media and opposing party’s all realize that the Republican party will be looking for the “perfect” candidate, that can never be found!

Republicans think they will boil it down to “the lesser of 2 evils” by the end of the Republican National Convention. What they will ultimately wind up with are the GOP Establishment candidate and the winner of the popularity contest, that has been going on for the previous year and a half. Once the RNC convenes, only a handful of people will remember the previous convention and the shenanigans that took place in order to select the GOP chosen preference. Voila! You got it! Here’s your newest, greatest hope for a better 4 years. A couple of billion dollars down the drain on wasted campaigns, and what we end up with is the GOP and media pick that has always been there from the beginning. Let the celebrations begin over at the DNC Headquarters!

On the outside chance that some citizens get really super patriotic and start agreeing with each other for the betterment of everyone, and elect a candidate that a majority actually agree with – then there’s the election booth and the counting of votes itself to contend with. Does the name Chris McDaniels ring a bell? It’s not always the other party or Al Franken that can steal an election – just ask Harry Reid or W.

In other words, unless the election results in a total landslide victory – there’s no such thing as a fair election anymore. Only the people with “no memory, short memory, or are totally lost behind their rose colored glasses” will feel that this is too cynical, and can’t possibly be true.

So what does the media have in mind for the Republican Party? Let’s go with a Social Conservative as the Democrats will have absolutely no chance of losing in that department. The media can tie the minds of the citizenry with slanted and unbalanced “breaking now” stories for the next 100 years on those subjects alone. Abortion, same sex marriage, religious liberty and illegal immigration have put many liberal democrats in office for decades and a good social conservative wouldn’t have a snowballs chance, in an attempt to out-politic one of these pros. Even the Tea Party could get behind anyone that is against these issues.

Running a social conservative against Hillary Clinton or Elizabeth Warren is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. But a good fight against mainstays of the liberal regime is just too much to resist for those just itching for a battle of wits. Our nation has far too many people that would rather win the battle, than win the war within our own divided country.

The Neofiscapaleon

Let me introduce the Neofiscapaleon (No it’s not an offshoot of Sarah Palin) This brand of Conservative is a combination of Neo, Fiscal and Paleo conservatism.

Fiscal conservatives oppose unnecessary government expenditures, deficits, and government debt. (No, they’re not the same) They take the perspective of the present and future taxpayers, and worry about the possible burden on them. They support balanced budgets!

Neoconservatives believe in a diplomatic foreign policy, stimulating economic growth by lowering taxes and finding alternative ways to deliver public welfare services. Culturally, neoconservatives tend to identify with traditional conservatives, but stop short of providing guidance on social issues
Paleoconservatives emphasize a connection with the past. Like neoconservatives, paleoconservatives tend to be family-oriented, religious-minded and opposed to the vulgarity permeating modern culture. They are also opposed to mass immigration and believe in the complete withdrawal of US military troops from foreign countries.

Until Americans quit worrying about whether the girl next door is dating a Muslim, and her brother is having gay sex with an illegal alien, we will continue on the same path. Not that these issues aren’t important, but little things like government corruption, wars, the IRS and foreign policy matter much more to so many of us. Once our nation slips back into another depression/recession, and the countries that have lost all respect for us continue to kill American citizens at even more alarming rates – who’s sleeping with whom, won’t really matter – will it? Just don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!

We really need to put down the coloring books and get back to business!

Boots on the Ground?

So – In your opinion, you feel that America should go back to the Middle East in force, with boots on the ground and defeat ISIS.

Please tell everyone you make such statements to, when you’re leaving!

Oh, I see, you can’t because you have a:

Wife and Family

Husband and Children

A mortgage and car payment

Pregnancy in the family

Or you’re too:

Not trained to fight

Not in good enough shape

Sickly – bad health

Perhaps you have religious views that denounce taking another persons life.  Maybe you just don’t’ like the sight of blood.  Do you have a hard time determining who the enemy is because they hide behind old women and children?  Do you think those same women and children would tell you where the enemy were hiding if they weren’t right behind them?  Could it be that you are unwilling to blow up a building used for religious purposes, i.e. Mosque?   (Why not, they’d blow up your church or temple)  Do you shiver at the thought of collateral damage or even know what it is?  Seriously, how do you determine who is innocent and who isn’t?

What’s you’re excuse for not lacing up those boots yourself, and going on over to God knows where, and offering up a piece of your mind?  You’re quick to tell everyone in the cyber world that you feel their neighbors’; friends and kinfolk should do it.

Certainly, you have many reasons why you can’t do it yourself, but that doesn’t stop you from jumping on the bandwagon and letting others do the fighting for you.  If you have heard about ISIS, I know that you have heard about the disgraceful treatment of our returning veterans by the Veterans Administration.  Did you know that veterans that do not come back 100% disabled do not even qualify for dental care?   Do you really think the welcome wagon at the VA is, or will get any better because of the headlines?

Speaking of benefits – can you tell me how you personally or anyone else in the United States will benefit from Americans dying for the people of the Middle East?  You do know how grateful these peoples are for your sacrifice don’t’ you?

Here’s a comforting thought!  The present regime in office is willing to “pink slip” or let go (as in layoff / fire) 90,000 trained men and women and replace them with illegal aliens.  Perhaps you know one of these trained persons that will soon be home and joining the unemployed in your neighborhood.  The real “kicker” is:  It smells like Amnesty, because it is.  However, if you “use” these aliens to die for us, well that just makes it all ok – doesn’t it?  How do you think Abraham, Martin & John would feel about this modern day twist to slavery?

This is kind of like a Temp Agency for war!  It’s ok because if they make it back alive, we will issue them bona fide citizenship for the whole famned damily!  (No dental at the VA though)  The indulgences of our nation never cease because you and I know that we are so extremely grateful for anyone that will take a bullet for us.

Now that this has been identified and we’re all so cocksure of the overriding good faith and benefits to the US – Lets get it on!  I’m behind you, take off, I got your back!  Don’t worry about the terrorist slipping across all of our borders, as they’ll soon be fighting next to you or against you.  God Bless, love ya, mean it!  Thanks!  Don’t get a toothache!

Til the next time I’m floored in disbelief

S O S!

Goodbye USS Saratoga CV-60

Friday, August 8th, 2014 – more than 100 veterans from all eras of the carrier’s life took part in a farewell ceremony at Naval Station Newport.  The Saratoga will be towed to Texas later this month to be dismantled!  It is with great honor that I knew you, and a heavy heart that I am forced to say goodbye to such a warrior and icon of our seas.  I never had the privilege of serving aboard your deck, but I was your brother in arms serving beside you from the safety of the USS Ranger CVA-61.  Like our country, you could only be destroyed from within, and I am so saddened by this event.  You deserved better, as do all your brothers and sisters that served with you and I will continue to remember your contributions to America and so many other grateful nations.  Semper FI my lady!

The greatest Aircraft Carriers that instilled freedom for millions of people, not only in the United States but worldwide are being sold off for scrap.  Does that sound like a worthy proposition to you?  I have never met a single person that was not totally amazed at the prospect of serving aboard such a great ship.  These mighty warriors are pure amazement to those that have ever wondered, “how’d they do that”?  Everyone has to take a moment to think of what life would have been like on board one of these floating cities.

The very idea of so many men (and women) being on board one ship at the same time bewilders the non sailor in every corner of the universe.  Did they really have 3 mess decks serving meals, 24 hours per day?  How big were the engines and props that moved this huge hunk of iron across the ocean.  Did it burn gas? Diesel? Or was it Nuclear Powered? “I’d like to see that” is always the response you hear after answering such questions.  How many decks (floors) were there under water?  How many planes could be repaired and readied in the hangar bay?  Where were the bombs that the fighter planes carried stored?  What ever became of all the trash created by so many people?  How did you get fuel and food while out at sea for long periods of time?  How long were the flight deck and how much space was used to stop an incoming plane?

These are just a handful of the questions that people of all ages and origins have about these mighty Super Carriers.  If I had my way, these former homes to so many of our bravest men and women would be on display in every state that bordered water.  Think about it!  Can vacation resorts near the ocean have too many water parks?  Restaurants? Golf Courses?  If you think that places like Savannah, GA. or Charleston, SC. have too many historical homes on view to the public, then a place like Williamsburg, VA. would definitely not make sense.  Now, if showcasing these former lifestyles and architectural renderings are of interests to millions of vacationing Americans each year, why wouldn’t a former defender of our nations freedom i.e. an Aircraft Carrier, on display be a good idea?

Yes – it would be expensive to merely have electricity and running water available to keep these monuments to our freedom in shipshape and safe for the public to view.  I’d bet everyone of you will agree that the money used to preserve and display one of these carriers would be better spent this way than giving it to some country’s despot leader to hoard.  Our citizens are taxed and the money spent to build hospitals, roads and schools in a foreign nation that hates the American way of life.  I say, “Cut back on this fools folly of foreign aid” and spend the money on Americans and preserve our patriotic vessels.

The below Aircraft Carriers could be placed in docks or even floating offshore (reached by ferry) from the state of Washington to Maine.  The jobs for Veterans, working as tour guides and so many other American citizens that could be created have to be in the thousands.  Tour Guides for:   Engine Room, Berthing Areas, Officer Country, Ordinance Magazine, Engineering Log Room & Departmental Tours, Mess Decks, General Quarters Command Center, Hangar Bay, Flight Deck, The Bridge, are but a few of jobs that could be extended to Veterans.

Why Scrap old fighter planes or send them to the Bone Yard?  Many of these should be used and put on display in the Hangar Bays and Flight Decks.  Huge Las Vegas style video screens showing re-enactments of past events located in Hangar Bays and on the Flight Deck could enthrall millions of tourist every year.  Imagine the millions of people that have been entertained by Civil War and Revolutionary War re-enactment presentations along the East Coast of the United States.  These things could be done aboard an Aircraft Carrier Museum.  Would any American not relish the idea of having a meal in a restaurant on board one of these wonders of the world?

Congress needs to think a little further past the end of their nose, and save these patriotic symbols of American freedom.  Without them, hundreds of thousands more of American lives would have perished in the World Wars, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.  Let’s show some respect for our living military personnel and those that died serving on these Carriers and preserve them.  They still have a tremendous value to add to our nation.

Not many people can recall a friend or relative that has served the United States in such a unit.  That’s because they’re rare!  Most people don’t even know that they exist or what they do that makes them so rare.  However, many people have seen movies or viewed ROTC Drill Teams that perform a small percentage of the duties of a CNIC member.  For many a veteran and non veteran alike, it’s hard to imagine a sailor that would dedicate 2 or more years of their life to such a highly specialized team of professional men and women.  Here is a link to the CNIC webpage so you can take a quick look at whom my subject matter below is tied to:  https://www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/ndw/about/ceremonial_guard.html

Now for the rest of the story:  Yeoman Second Class “P****” (YN2 = E5)

YN2 Michael S. P**** served 2 years in the service of the Ceremonial Guard in Washington D.C. (1973-1977) After his 2 years of spit shining shoes, impeccable uniform preparation, marching and standing at attention for hours on end in funerals and performances for visiting “Heads of State”, he was assigned (for 2 years) as a Yeoman for the DOD at the Pentagon.  YN2 P**** did his entire tour of duty in D.C. and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy.

P**** originally joined the Navy fresh out of high school in 1973, with the intention of joining in service with his brother.  The problem with this idea was that his brother was serving in Vietnam and the Navy would not allow two brothers to serve on the same ship in a combat zone.  Being an excellent and “squared away” sailor with a rare disciplined integrity and work ethic that he possessed, P**** was “given the opportunity” to apply for membership in the Ceremonial Guard, while still in boot camp.

After boot camp in Great Lakes, IL, P**** was transferred to Washington D.C. to begin training and service in the Naval Ceremonial Guard.  The first stop he made after boot camp was back home in Winston-Salem, NC where he married his high school sweetheart before arriving for duty in D.C. with his wife.  As of this moment, he has been married to her for 40 years.

Today, his wife and family are watching him deteriorate in Late Stage-4 COPD, while the Veterans Administration promises to make appointments for him with the Pulmonary Department – that are often months away from when he needs them.  His breathing is so shallow and belabored that he has often had to report to the emergency room in a civilian hospital because the ER for Veterans is 45 miles away in Salisbury NC.  When a man can’t breathe, he doesn’t have the ability to drive for an hour to get to an emergency room.  He gets treated at the civilian facility and billed for it, while the VA fights with him about who is going to pay the bill.

It was truly a sad testament to the treatment of our Veterans, the day he stated that his primary physician had said to him, “What do you want me to do, you’re dying”.

I suppose the most ironic situation in this Veterans Administration horror story is that while YN2 P****, spent his entire military service paying homage to and burying veterans in Arlington National Cemetery, the VA is now sitting idly by and watching him die.  He spent his military career burying our bravest and our nations dignitary’s while marching and standing at attention in our nations most revered graveyard.  All too soon, he will be with them again.  All he ever asked for was a well earned appointment and to be treated for his ailment in a timely manner.

Due to his own humility and the fact that he never thought about or expected any form of special treatment, he will probably be upset that I used him as a way of speaking out against the Veterans Administration inability to keep their word to all Veterans.

I can’t excuse my use of his situation for this story – I am angry, and I love my brother.

Ceremonial Guard

Established in 1931, the United States Navy Ceremonial Guard is the official ceremonial unit of the Navy. Located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, DC, the Navy Ceremonial Guard’s primary mission is to represent the service in Presidential, Joint Armed Forces, Navy, and public ceremonies in and around the nation’s capital.

Members of the Navy Ceremonial Guard participate in some of our nation’s most prestigious ceremonies, including Presidential inaugurations and arrival ceremonies for foreign officials.  In addition, the Navy Ceremonial Guard serves as the funeral escort and conducts all services for Navy personnel buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Navy Ceremonial Guard Sailors participate in numerous other military ceremonies at local commands.  Some elements of the command, such as the Drill Team and Color Guard, have represented the Navy in public events across the nation and around the world.

Don’t Blame US – Part Deux

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy:

So many well-intentioned people feel that former Congressman, Dr. Ron Paul was wrong and ignorant for wanting to stop the US Wars.

Lets take a look at that.  Why does anyone think that the US needs to have boots on the ground in countries all around the world?

Dr. Paul says in his opinion that other countries consider our country to be a threat by being there in the first place.

He gives the example of how we would feel if other countries did that to us.

What would be the logical outcome if Russia or China were to build a huge military base in Iraq?  How about Cuba?  Would Americans feel safe if Korea began a base in Mexico?  What if the land owned by China in this country were to be used for Chinese military training?   What happens when China determines it’s in their best interest to have a base in Italy?

Who the hell died and left the United States in charge of the world?  Americans pumped full of patriotism were hell bent about stopping Russia from doing the same things we’re doing across the globe.  We fought off Germany and Japan for trying that same principle.  We fought the Vietnam War, which was really US against Russia and China, and all we accomplished was loss of life.

Is it because we promote the Democratic way that makes us right and them wrong?  Who are we to say what is right for other countries?  Did we not fight a war with England to stop them from telling us how to live our lives and taxing us?  Just because we give out billions of dollars in financial aid: does that give us the right to occupy their lands?

The question is:  What are we occupying their lands for?  Is the answer the same tired old statement that we have a presence there to ebb the flow of communism?  So the old adages that worked on people in the 50′s are supposed to be good reasons for World Dominance?

Heads up!  The world does not want to be dominated!  If they wanted our brand of democracy and someone to tell them what’s right and wrong – they would ask for our help and opinions!  Politicians and school teachers, have been preaching for 60 years about how the world needs us to be a presence globally, lest said countries dissolve into wars and famine.

Now I have to ask you – Who do you think is paying for this world protection?

News-break for you:  The United States Government does not have any money that it does not take first from its citizens!  Those “Bullets Over Baghdad” were all bought with your labor and taxes.  So are the schools and roads and hospitals and anything else that the American government does in its Nation Building quest.  Just how much of a Global Citizen do you want to be?  How much do you desire to pay for this title?  Are you more of a global citizen than the people of Switzerland and how does that make you feel?

Did they ever teach you in school that if you pay attention, work hard and keep your mouth shut, that you can grow up to be a productive member of society and PAY to make the world a safer place?  How much time have you spent in consideration that it is your tax dollars that are protecting oil fields in the Middle East so that other nations can have easier access to oil at a lower price per gallon?  Did you ever think that your own children would attend a substandard school while your tax dollars built new schools in another country?  Should your son die to protect the rights of Omar from being violated by Mohammed!  Thats a very graphic thought, but what does it take to get Americans to realize that we should not be doing this.

Why should Americans feel that we need “boots on the ground” in another country to protect our way of life and freedom?
There was once a cartoon that characterized a “salesman” attempting to sell machine guns to a Roman general in front of the generals tent.  In the background it was clear that the Roman army was equipped with shields, spears and bows w/arrows.  The caption said:  ”Not now, I have a war to fight.”  That my fellow Americans, is the general thinking of most people when it comes to protecting America.

Withdrawing troops and bases from foreign soil does not mean “Isolationism.”  It does not mean that we as a nation desire to tell the world to go away!  Other countries see the United States as “Bully’s” as opposed to our grand notion that we are there to protect them.  You can argue all you want that they are wrong but it is still their perception that matters in their country.  Sure, there have been crying kids and parents thanking our troops gratefully, in some country that we helped win a battle – after the bombs stopped and the burials began.  How long after the funerals were over do you think that the opinions began to change?  A year, 5-10 years?  How do you think they feel 50 years later?  Just how wrong is Dr. Paul for stating we should pull out of these countries?  After all, it is Americans they are shooting at and not each other.  It is our embassy’s that are getting bombed.  It is our military installations that they attack.  What kind of clue do you need to understand that it is their country and they don’t want us in it?

Therefore, the very strategy of “protecting our interest” has to change.

Have you ever personally witnessed what our military is capable of when we take the handcuffs off?  I have, even though it was 40 years ago.  I have to believe that what was once powerful, is even more so today with technology and much better weapons and planes.  Our navy, with its aircraft carriers sitting miles offshore can do amazing things.  Airplanes flying at the speed of sound can shoot missiles through open windows and return to the safety of the carrier which is guarded by another ship called a Destroyer.  Do we really need 200 military bases when one will suffice?  Do we really need our men and women walking the streets of a combat zone.  How about sitting in a tent or barracks at a military compound waiting on a hostile missile to take them out?  Why? Why? Why?

We have a Secretary of State and many Ambassadors to negotiate with the heads of state of all the world.  There are so many military and world leaders that no one even knows who they are.  Let them do their jobs and quit using the threat of violence in the forms of soldiers walking the streets  to do our bidding and protect us.  We don’t need to lose a life to make a point!  If our leaders can not negotiate a settlement – we sanction them and hold our ground til they do agree.  If that doesn’t work and they take an American life, we send them a present.  That present should be in the form of our advanced technology.  We can send a little technology or a lot of technology, depending on how long it takes to make the point. The present should be delivered from Utah or a carrier located so far off shore that it can’t be seen with binoculars.

Problem solved.

Thats not Isolationism!  Its Protectionism!  Our country’s leaders need to “Say what they mean and mean what they say.”  If they can’t do that, they need to be replaced.  Iran released hostages because they knew Ronald Reagan would not tolerate their actions, the day he came into office.  Our country has to have leaders that other countries respect.  One of our states has road signs that everyone in our nation knows about whether they have ever been there or not.  The signs simply say:  Don’t Mess With Texas.  Texas doesn’t go to other states and flaunt this ideology but everyone knows its there.  I don’t promote scaring the world straight, but I do promote using the technology that we have in a way that saves our nation money and lives.

Instead of putting American sons and daughters in harms way, we should pull back to a safe distance.   Say somewhere in the neighborhood of “Home.”  Take the targets off the backs of our men and women and put them in our country where they can protect American borders.  So far we have done a better job of protecting Iraqi borders than the ones we have in the southwest and California. That doesn’t mean that all immigration should cease either!  It just means that we are going to enforce the laws we have had in place and stop the flow of illegals coming into this nation.  We have to wake up to the realization that it is not just illegal gardeners that are coming across our borders.

Was 9/11 our fault?  HELL NO!  But ask yourself this:

Why did the Islamic Terrorists not fly planes into the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, or Tiananmen Square.  No they specifically wanted to ruin our nation financially (World Trade Center) and send a message to our military by taking out the Pentagon.  Look at the messages they sent during the Clinton administration.  Our nations military needs to come home and quit antagonizing the lunatics located outside our borders.  I would rather send a missile from 100 miles away than shoot at a man from 50 yards. Missiles are just more accurate and besides that “its nothing personal.” just business.

Take the handcuffs off and do the job right!  It makes financial sense and SAVES American lives.

Part Deux – because this was originally written and posted in September 2011.  Most considered it a story in support of Ron Paul for President and dismissed it as another “Paulite” piece.  Under present times, with Kevin McCarthy that has just replaced Eric Cantor as the Majority Leader in the House, and is calling for the possibility of sending “boots on the ground” back to Iraq – this article seems to be in need of review.
